What are opioids?
Opium is the name for the dried latex obtained from the opium poppy plant. It contains about 12% morphine. Heroin and other opiates [made from natural opium], as well as synthetic substances like morphine, bind to the opioid receptors and, therefore, have the same mode of action. Opioids are one class of drugs in a huge spectrum. Please see the graphic above for the four classifications of opioids.
So, how did the opioid epidemic come about?
It began with the over-prescription of opioids in the 1990s, which led to them becoming the most prescribed class of medications in the United States. Opioids initiated for post-surgery or pain management are one of the leading causes of opioid misuse. Six percent of people continue opioid use after trauma or surgery. In 2017, the opioid deaths exceeded 70,000 from synthetic opioids.
Why is there a desire to take an upper, a downer, a hallucinogen?
When all the layers are peeled back for opioid misuse or any other type of addiction, there is the need to be loved. Without a person being loved, therein are insecurities. Whatever we are addicted to allows us to avoid ourselves by giving us a poor substitute for love to be temporarily fulfilled to fill the void. Opioid addiction is an escape mechanism that works in partnership with the demonic spirit called the unloving spirit. Types of unloving spirits are self-accusation, self-hatred, guilt, self-fear, and shame.
The source of fulfillment! We clearly understand that although all people need God, they don’t often recognize it, agree with it, or like it. Many people are upset with God, angry with God, or outright disappointed with His track record in their lives. So, how could God be of any use to them, given that He’s the reason [blame shifting] they are where they’re at?
It’s allowed and safe to have a pow-wow session with God. Belt it out; no language is off-limits. You’re shifting what’s inside your head and logging in your emotions to the foot of The Cross. We suggest making a dump list of what you’re ticked off about and slapping them individually at the bottom of The Cross. Be careful; once you do this, you’re empty of what you’ve been avoiding.
You must be refilled immediately whenever you empty, with what should have been there in the first place. Now — there’s an opportunity to be fulfilled with the love of God. This experience is different for each person. God will meet you at your level.
